During my (Avery) year of fieldwork in Malmö, Sweden, I had the pleasure to be a guest researcher at the Centre for Sexology and Sexuality Studies (CSS) housed at the Social Work Department at Malmö University. During my time there, I was able to discuss my project with researchers and practitioners from different disciplines than my own, while enabled me to see my own project in different lights. For example, multiple researchers working at the CSS are also trained and practice as couples and family therapists/counsellors. They enriched my understanding of enduring romantic relationships with behind-the-scenes therapy practices (and critiques thereof), as well as Sweden/Malmö-specific information about the healthcare system and access to resources.
I contributed two seminars to the CSS’s seminar series. The first was in January 2026, and served as a mid-way opportunity to describe how my participant outreach and methods were playing out, and receive feedback on my approach. During the second, in August 2026, I presented my (very) initial findings, and discussed possible directions for my analysis.
